be you.

Some food for thought.

Maybe the connection you are longing to have is with yourself. Getting to know yourself.  Trusting yourself.  As a cancer you are super protective of yourself and your heart. And you long to have that connection in your life. Yet sometimes cancers are soo hidden in their shell protecting themselves they miss the chances to connect.  And sometimes hidding is really hidding from yourself...

Also quit allowing old connections to compete with new ones. Old ones are ghosts, and although they were great at one time, there is a reason you broke up.  Unfortunately our memory tends to block out the bad and only remember the good.  But don't let the synthetic good cloud the connection with new people.

Quit over thinking it all! Get out of your head and into the now! Life happens, be present. you can't be present when you are constantly in your head!!!

Don't compromise yourself!! Don't go out with someone you don't want to....Attention is nice. Attention is great. Feeling wanted rocks. But feeling wanted by the wrong person, isn't nice or great, and doesn't rock! If feels pained, and difficult. Friends and lovers shouldn't feel difficult. Yes there will be difficult times. But a relationship shouldn't feel forced. If it does it wasn't meant to be! Stop trying soo hard.

Get to know you.
Be you.
Be honest with yourself.
Be open to new friends and opportunities.
Still being you.
Create new opportunities to make new friends.
Let the past be in the past.
Be you.

It will happen when you live it! Be you!

PS this was written for someone who shares my birthday. and well I guess I can learn a bit from it too!

I heart Macy

I now know why people with pets live longer! We laugh more!

A few days ago I made a run to the grocery store for some much needed sustenance. I got home to this!!

Here is the back story...when I am sick I like to put my used tissues in an empty tissue box.  It keeps my sick area all nice and tidy. Apparently while I was gone, Macy checked out the tissue receptacle, and got her head stuck in it! It was sooo funny!!! I got home and she was hiding under the kitchen table scared, until she heard my voice, and then she got up, tail wagging, and booty wiggling!! I of course had to make it a photo opt!!

Where does all this snot come from??

I have been sick with a cold since Tuesday.  I have already been through one box of tissue!! Note, I have found that an empty box of tissue makes a great receptacle for the used tissue.  It keeps your "sick area" all nice and tidy.  My "sick area" this time is brilliant if I may say so myself. I had my "guest" bed blown up and I just carried it downstairs to the family room to become my "hospital" bed! BRILLIANT!!! Thank goodness Roommate is traveling on the East Coast this week, as I have had the house all to myself to contaminate.

I have been the best patient EVER. Rest, rest, and rest. Which comes with some side effects, man is my back sore! I will say my brilliant "sick area" does have a down side.... the "hospital" bed does loose air, causing it to be more flaccid, depleting its support. I know what your are saying, just blow it back up! Well a few months ago when my suga mama (no really my mom) bought me the bed to go to Wutchumna (our big camping/party trip we go on every year) we decided that it didn't make much sense to have an A/C air pump when I would be in the mountains.  So we bought the car adapter air pump.  You imagined correctly, I had to blow it up in the drive way with my car! So given my current health I decided it would be best to just take some Tylenol and deal with the back pain, then deal with the complexity of getting out of my pjs, moving two cars, just to blow up my "hospital" bed.

I have been able to catch up on my Tivo. An upside! I am down to only a usage of 6%!!  And I have seen some movies that I thought I wanted to see.  Nine is really beautiful and complex, I don't recommend it while high on cold medicine. Its kinda hard to follow, perhaps I will see it again when I am off Pseudoephedrine and Tylenol. I also watched Leap Year, I thought it would be a little lighter, and a good romantic comedy! It was definitely light, and fluffy. A little lame, I think I would suggest to wait until its on TBS Dinner & a Movie.

Goodness I sound like Goldie Locks and the two movies! I am just fed up with this cold! And getting a little grouchy! Its soo beautiful out and I am stuck on this "hospital" bed with a snotty nose and a sore back! I am trying to remain positive though, this illness is really helping me kick off my summertime body! Hello sickness diet, now if I could only follow this up with a little tummy flu! Wishful thinking!

Walking 12:00am to 3:00am...Relay for Life

It was a LONG night but totally worth it.  Last night or should I say this morning, I participated in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, what an amazing experience.  Fun, emotional, inspirational.  I felt so proud to be a part of such an event. I must say the words are not really coming to me this afternoon. Cause this girl is tuckered out!!!

I REALLY want a job! (that comes with a pay check!)

I really really really want a job!!!

I am afraid I will be extremely sad and heartbroken if I hear another time that I didn't get a job....
Its a real blow to my career confidence. And I have said this before but I the lack of a job really effects my self worth.   I know it shouldn't!!! But it does. It is hard to hear that they "have decided to go with another candidate"!!

Plus there are things I really want to do, but they require a little larger income than what I have! Mondays are tough days, everyone marches off to work. And I feel down that I am not at work.
I know there are people who are MUCH worse off than I am. And I am grateful for what I have. Sometimes I just wish I had more!

Digital Intervention...

Often times at the dinner table, the not-so-Swiss Family R. would often debate things. Which would always lead to the patriarch of the clan pulling out the Encyclopedia to anoint the winner of the debate. In the world of digital overload, I have realized that the Encyclopedia is absolutely obsolete. Wee donated our several years ago, while my Mom stated, "We paid a lot of money for those!"  And retorted back, "Yay, but now we have Google and its free!!"

I am starting to think I rely too much on the world wide web.

Here is a good example: Today a good friend sent me an article to read to help me in my quest to be a better graphic designer, and it maybe also to free him from my incessant need for HIS Illustrator assistance!! I digress. While reading this article there were several terms I was unfamiliar with, so what do I do, I go to my trusty source, Google, which leads me to my other trusty info pal Wikipedia. Here I read up on the terms serif and sans serif, for which some of you who may be unfamiliar with as was I, refers to a font and whether or not its has feet.  Currently I am using the font Times Roman, it is a serif font, it has feet.  Now I am using Verdana which is a sans serif font, it has no feet.

But again I digress. I realize as I am reading about this, how many times a day I Google something. Sometimes I Google to do some research, sometimes I Google to help me spell, I Google to shop, I use Google for my email, my pictures, my blog....the last time I looked up a word in a book dictionary was...well, I think when I was playing a friend in Scrabble, and they were trying to cheat!! You know who you are.

So I find myself wondering...what will our society look like in 10 years? So digital charged that we cannot connect with each other? I mean there are several people in my life that I NEVER talk to on the phone, or even see in person. We I.M. or email...Is that a real relationship? Sure it is, but are we using technology to help us connect with each other or using it as a defense mechanism.  Je no se pas. Yep, I just Googled that to see if I was spelling it correctly. Seriously.

I think I will challenge myself to weekend of being offline.  Next weekend I am going camping, but being offline in a location that doesn't get signal, does not count.  I need to do it on a weekend that I am at home, that I am forced to kick this dependency on my iPhone, email, Google, Tivo, basically the 22nd Century.  Yep had to look that one up too! Really, I don't even know the century we are in, super sad!! A fifth grader is probably smarter than me!

Okay, Here are the rules:
  • No e-mail.
  • No texting.
  • No iPhone.
  • No .com, .org, .net. Nothing!
  • Further more NO computer!
  • No Tivo.
  • No cellular phone.-I will be required to call my friends on my home phone. Yep I have one. I may need to write their numbers down though before I go offline, all my digits are in my cellie.
Just some good old fashion fun! Books, home phones, the radio (I don't think I have one), maybe a little scrap booking.

Yikes, I am having with drawls already!!

Hmmm when will I do this? Let me consult my Assistant, Irene iPhone. APRIL 9-11!! I have nothing going on that weekend.  I will document the experience, by journaling on paper, you know the O.G. way of blogging... Then I will share it with you, after I am allowed back online...

Can you go offline for an entire weekend?
Try it.
Journal about it.
And share it with me.
